Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Cadney that was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Kirton in Lindsey airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy, which displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. A control building was erected on the site at TA 012 047, which housed the power generator for the lights and provided crew shelter. It is referenced as being in use between August 1941 and August 1942. By 1973 the site had been turned into a reservoir and no features of the decoy survive. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Cadney (TA 015 050). It was constructed to deflect enemy bombing from RAF Kirton in Lindsey airfield. It is referenced as being in use between 01-AUG-1941 to 12-MAY-1942. A further bombing decoy was located at Thornton le Moor (TF 029 956). (1)
By 1973 the site had become a reservoir no features of the decoy survive. A control building was originally located at TA 012 047. (2)
