Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Suffield that was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Coltishall airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy that displayed a sequence of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in operation between August 1941 and August 1942. By the late 1960s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. A further bombing decoy site for Royal Air Force Coltishall was located at Beeston St Lawrence. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Suffield (TG 242 320). It was constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from RAF Coltishall. It is referenced as being in use between 01-AUG-1941 and 12-AUG-1942. A further bombing decoy site for RAF Coltishall was located at Beeston St Lawrence (TG 318 227). (1)
By 1969 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. (2)
