Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Beeston St Lawrence built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Coltishall airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy that displayed a sequence of lights to simulate an active airfield. It was constructed in August 1941 and ceased operating in 1943. The site contained a bunker, which housed the power generator and provided crew shelter. By the 1970s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. A further bombing decoy for Royal Air Force Coltishall was located at Suffield. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy site located at Beeston St Lawrence (TG 318 227). It was constructed to deflect enemy bombing from RAF Coltishall. It is referenced as being operational between 01-AUG-1941 and 12-AUG-1942. A further bombing decoy site for RAF Coltishall was located at Suffield (TG 242 320). (1)
