Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 1460009

Hob Uid: 1460009
Location :
Shropshire
Wroxeter and Uppington
Grid Ref : SJ5627008310
Summary : Glass working debris found in field 509 in 1973 suggests that glass was worked in the area.
More information : This site was by a wide road which, having crossed the River Severn, was about to enter Wroxeter. Dr D Harden examined the glass and concluded that:

All of the fragments in this assemblage are early pieces of later 1st-mid 2nd century. four fragments of window glass were found along with fragments of drawn rods, punty wads, cullet and blobs of waste glass. When all four types of material are present, and the fact that they were found on a dump of clean sand, appears to support the idea that this was a glass making site. (1)
