Summary : World War II lozenge-shaped pillbox, constructed of reinforced concrete 1940-1 as part of the Northern Command River Wansbeck Stop Line, and the more southerly of the two pillboxes located north of the village, on the west side of St. Leonard's Lane. Six-sided, with a porch protecting the entrance and nine gun-slits. One of four pillboxes, all to this design, in and around Mitford, which are scheduled as being 20th century extensions of the defensive function of Mitford Castle [NZ 18 NE 4]. |
