Summary : Yardley cemetery opened in 1883 and was originally of 8 acres, the site was extended in 1921 and is now of 64 acres. The cemetery originally had a two storey lodge building, which is listed grade II, and a cemetery chapel which has since been demolished. A new chapel was built in 1936, it was designed by James A Swann and was designed so that it could be adapted to a crematorium later by the addition of an extension.
More information : Yardley Cemetery was opened in 1883 to provide an alternative to Yardley Parish Churchyard. The cemetery was originally of 8 acres and is now some 64 acres, it was last extensioned in 1921. Due to rise in popularity of cremation one of the chapels was converted to a crematorium which opened in 1952. (1)

The cemetery was considered for inclusion in the Register of Parks and Gardens but was not added to the Register. (2)
