More information : There is a crematorium, surrounded by a garden of remembrance and a columbarium. Also NGR reference. (1)
The chapel was built in 1912 and is now a Grade II Listed Building. There are two war memorials, both of which are Grade II Listed. One was erected around 1920 and is thought to be by "Edwin Blomfield". The other war memorial is in memory of the civilians killed during the air attacks during World War II. (2)
Northern Cemetery opened in the late 19th Century or early 20th Century. It is unclear from sources when exactly the cemetery opened, it seems to be more likely C20 but I included C19 just in case it proves to be Victorian. Also please note that the Edwin referred to in (2) is probably an error, and likely either Edwin Lutyens or Reginald Blomfield. (3)
The cemetery was considered for inclusion in the Register of Parks and Gardens, but was not added to the Register. (4) |
