Summary : Coastal battery to the east of Southsea Castle, built as part of the 1860s defence review of Portsmouth's defences. It was modified in circa 1902 and armed with two 6-inch breech-loading (BL) Mk. VII guns. By the First World War it gained two additional 9.2-inch BL Mk. X guns. The 6-inch guns were removed after 1927, and during the Second World War it mounted only the 9.2-inch guns.

(1) Southsea Castle located at SZ 645 980. East Battery was built as part of Portmouth's defences in the 1860s. It was modified in circa 1902 and armed with two 6-inch breech-loading (BL) Mk.
