MONUMENT NO. 1416595

DESCRIPTION + /

Site of a Second World War Type 24 pillbox is recorded just south of the entrance to Dunster Park on the A39 road. The pillbox was constructed in 1940-41 and built of brick, iron and reinforced concrete. The pillbox has subsequently been demolished and field visit in 1996 by the Defence of Britain Project found no traces of the structure. The pillbox is immediately south of another recorded as SS 94 SW 131 and may be associated with the two nissen huts recorded as SS 94 SE 139. The footings of the pillbox are still visible on aerial photographs taken in 1993.
