Summary : Site of Second World War heavy anti aircraft battery ZE9 at Wanstead Flats. There was also an adjacent barrage balloon site. It was armed with 4 x 3.7-inch static guns in 1940, but was listed as unarmed in 1942, although GL Mark II radar is recorded. It was manned by 273 Battery of the 86th Royal Artillery Regiment in 1940, by thwe Home Guard in 1942, and by 535 Battery of the 156th Mobile Royal Artillery Regiment in 1943.
