Summary : The possible remains of a World War Two spigot mortar emplacement at North Weald Airfield. If the identification of the concrete structure is correct, the spigot and pin holding the mortar in place have been removed. It may have been constructed 1940-1941.
More information : The possible remains of a World War Two spigot mortar emplacement at North Weald Airfield, North Weald Bassett, Essex, TL 4934 0481. It was identified in 1995 as the possible stump of a spigot mortar situated amongst rubble, the spigot and pin holding the mortar in place have been removed. it was described as being in "bad condition". The suggested construction date is 1940-1941. (1)
