Summary : The site of Roman turret 49A. Traces were found during investigations in 1945 which showed it was replaced by Birdoswald fort. There are no visible remains.
More information : Within the defences of Camboglanna fort (NY 66 NW 14) at NY 6154 6628 - (see plan) "the site of turret 49a TW was found in 1945, represented by a gap in the Turf Wall and a scatter of mason's chippings left from the removal of the tower, all sealed below the via principalis of the fort." (1)
