More information : A battle headquarters formerly part of Hucknall Airfield's World War Two defences, noted on the Defence of Britain Database as being situated in woodland at the end of Westland Avenue, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, SK 519 475. According to the record it was constructed using concrete and brick, probably between 1940 and 1941. The record notes that only the "watch tower" was visible above ground on a field visit made in 1998. Local oral information given to the Defence of Britain Project recorder suggests that the "tunnel" connecting the "watch tower " to the rest of the "bunker" had been filled in. (1)
The standard World War Two battle headquarters were furnished with a concrete observation post visible above ground level-this may be the "watch tower" noted in source 1. The observation post was connected to the rest of the battle headquarters with a passageway or coridoor- in effect the "tunnel" noted in source 1. (2)
