Summary : A World War Two pillbox at the former Hawkinge Airfield. It is situated off Gibralter Lane at the south-east corner of the airfield, with Terlingham Manor Fam to the immediate east. It has been described as an Air Ministry standard pattern pillbox, built from reinforced concrete. It may have been constructed between 1940 and 1941. It was said to have been in extant and in good condition in 1999. |
More information : A World War Two pillbox at the former Hawkinge Airfield (Hawkinge, Kent). It is situated at TR 2118 3902, off Gibralter Lane at the south-east corner of the airfield, with Terlingham Manor Farm to the immediate east. The Defence of Britain Database record describes it as an Air Ministry standard pattern pillbox, built from reinforced concrete. The record states that it was constructed between 1940 and 1941. It was said to have been extant and in good condition in 1999 after a visit which was part of the Defence of Britain Project. (1) |
