Summary : The "Airmen's Institute" mess and recreational facilities at the former RAF Biggin Hill West Camp site. The "Institute" is situated to the east of the A233 road (Main Road) south of the airmen's barracks. It was probably built between 1929 and 1934. Apart from some alterations to the fenestration the building has been little altered. An English Heritage report produced in May 2003 recommended that the "Airmen's Insitute" be considered for potential future Listed Building status.
More information : An English Heritage report produced in May 2003 recommended that the "Airmen's Institute" at the former RAF Biggin Hill West Camp site be considered for potential future Listed Building status possibly at Grade II. The report describes the building as "a key structure within the context of this nationally important site". (1)
