Summary : An air raid shelter at RAF Bicester, situated to the north-east of an "A" type aircraft hangar. The shelter was constructed in the mid 20th century. It is a narrow linear building built of concrete, with a substantial portion above ground. This example has no mound around it in contrast to some of the others at RAF Bicester.
More information : Plan 5824 and SP 5924 shows a narrow building to the north east of the type "A" aircraft hangar ("Building 79"), which matches the size and location of an air raid shelter photographed by English Heritage staff in February 2000, contained in the relevant Buildings File. It is at SP 5920 2461. There are other buildings of a similar size and shape located by some of the other hangars that were not photographed. (1)
