Summary : A training building for a facility known as a "link trainer" at RAF Bicester technical site. A "link trainer" was a plywood mock-up of an aircraft, in essence a type of early flight simulator. The building was built in 1939, and was used to train pilots in instrument flying. The link trainer building was recommended for consideration for possible Listed Building status by an English Heritage report produced in May 2003. |
More information : An English Heritage report produced in May 2003 recommended that the link trainer building ("Building 103") should be considered for potential future Listed Building status, possibly at Grade II. According to the report, the building was built in 1939 and was designed for "training of pilots in instrumentation flying and anticipating the site's wartime use". (1)
The link trainer was a plywood mock-up of an aircraft with instrumentation, an early sort of flight simulation aid. (2)
