Summary : A former ambulance shed and mortuary at RAF Bicester, (Defence Clothing and Textile Agency site). The mortuary was built in 1926 and ambulance shed was built in 1934. They are located to the south of the former sick quarters building. Both buildings are of brick with slate roofs; the mortuary roof is gabled, the ambulance shed has a hipped end to the roof. The space between the buildings is covered with a corrugated iron roof. The mortuary lies to the north of the ambulance shed. An English Heritage report produced in May 2003 suggested that these buildings could be included in a possible conservation area. |
More information : An English Heritage report produced in May 2003 suggested that the ambulance shed and mortuary (buildings 44 and 45) could "make a positive contribution towards the character and appearance" of a propsed conservation area, but that they were not to be considered for Listed Building Status. The ambulance shed was built in 1934 and the mortuary in 1926. The buildings were said to be located to the "SE" of the sick quarters but see source 2 below). (1)
Plan SP 5824 and SP 5924 appears to show the building due south, rather than south east, of the sick quarters, at SP 5887 2440. (2)
