Summary : A Second World War type 27 hexagonal pillbox situated at Bicester airfield (RAF Bicester). It is one of a number of pillboxes which formed the ground defences of the airfield. It was allegedly built between 1940 and 1941. It was constructed of reinforced concrete. This lies within one of the 16 contraint areas making up the Scheduled Monument at this important airfield site.
More information : The Defence of Britain online catalogue notes an extant Type FW3/27 Pillbox at SP 5935 2463, situated at RAF Bicester, Bicester airfield, Bicester, Oxfordshire. it was part of the airfield ground defences. it wasallegedly constructed between 1940 and 1941, the building material is reinforced concrete. The monument was recorded by Defence of Britain recorder Paul Francis. (1) A hexagonal pillbox Scheduled at this important site. The pillboxes form part of the ground defences and in particular to supplement and link the defended air raid shelters on the eastern edge of the aircraft hangar group at the former technical site (possibly analagous with constraint area 12).
