More information : A Medieval moat and a Medieval/post Medieval boundary bank, centred at NU 0030 5298, are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The moat is formed by extensive earthworks on the east side of the Elizabethan town defences (between Brass Bastion and King's Mount Bastion). The ditch is between 11m and 20m in width. These features are more fully described by authority 6 in record NT 95 SE 3.
Along the top of the eastern-most banks of the moat there is a 1m wide boundary bank. (1)
Medieval town defences are visible as earthworks on air photographs at NT 9988 5351. The medieval defences consist of a complex of earthworks to the north of the Cumberland and Brass Bastions and are part of the defences described by authority 1 above.
