Milecastle 45, on the top of Walltown Nick, is the long-axis type. (2)
The milecastle has been denuded of stone, and little remains but the "robber trenches", and their turf-covered spoil mounds. Resurveyed at 1.2500. (3)
The site has been made readily apparent by stone-grubbing activity, but there are no original remains. (4)
NY 6771 6657. No walling of the milecastle is exposed, it survives mainly as robber trenches flanked by spoil banks. Worked stones from the gateway have been built into the low wall to the rear of the cattle trough east of Walltown Farm. (5)

The site is visible as earthworks on air photographs. Banks and ditches possibly relate to the robber trenches and spoil mentioned above. There are a number of pits within the milecastle, which may relate to previous excavations or modern extraction. (8)
