| Summary : The site of the original Underground terminus station at Uxbridge. Opened on 4th July 1904, it was initially served by the steam trains of the Metropolitan railway before electric services were introduced on 1st January 1905. The station was laid out in the manner of a through station, as it was intended to extend the line to High Wycombe, however this scheme never materialised. On 1st March 1910 the Metropolitan District Railway also introduced services to Uxbridge, but from 23rd October 1933, they were replaced by the Piccadilly Line. The expansion of the Piccadilly LIne combined with the fact that the station was not very well located for the town centre, resulted in a new station being constructed in the High Street. This new Charles Holden designed station (see TQ 08 SE 37) opened on 4th December 1938 with the original station closing after the last train had ran the previous night. |
