Summary : The site of a former railway station which, after its closure in 1909, was redeveloped as a bus station. The station opened on 1st May 1883 when the Metropolitan District Railway opened the Hounslow and Metropolitan Railway from Mill Hill Park (now Acton Town) to Hounslow. However, when a direct line to Hounslow Barracks (now Hounslow West) was opened the following year, Hounslow Town, renamed as such in 1884, was left as a superfluous spur and in 1886 it eventually closed. In 1903, the year in which the District railway took full control of the Hounslow branch, the station reopened. However, the short line days were to be limited as services were finally withdrawn on the 1st May 1909 when a new Hounslow Town station (called Hounslow East from 1925) was opened on the direct line to Hounslow Barracks. The station was later demolished and the site has now been redeveloped as a bus station. |
