Summary : The Doncaster and Keadby Railway opened from Doncaster North Junction to join the Ancholme and Trent Railway at Keadby, opening in 1855 to Thorne, and 1859 to Keadby. To avoid delays gaining an Act of Parliament, the South Yorkshire Railway built the railway as a single line parallel to the Don Navigation and the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, both of which the company owned. Little more than a glorified waggonway, it was replaced by a more direct line in 1866 after authorisation was gained in 1862, and dismantled. |
