Summary : The Lytham Branch of the Preston and Wyre Railway was authorised in 1845 to take advantage of a small dock at Lytham. When opened in 1846 the branch ran from a small station 3/4 mile west of the modern Kirkham Junction to a small covered terminus at Lytham. A short branch from Warton to Lytham Dock was opened in 1865. With the new junction at Kirkham and connection between the Lytham railways (see linear 1338) the line became the Kirkham, Lytham and Blackpool Coast Railway.
