Summary :
The Sheffield and Lincolnshire Extension Railway was promoted by the Sheffield and Lincoln Junction Railway to provide a link between Sheffield and Grimsby via Lincoln. Agreement was reached between the S&LJRC and the Great Grimsby and Sheffield Railway to join their Market Rasen Branch line at Market Rasen, and opened between Lincoln and Market Rasen in December 1848.
