Summary : A gunpost dating to the first half of the twentieth century, located at the western side of Larkhill, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The feature comprises a very slight semicircular bank enclosing two slit trenches, one of which is dug into the top of a Bronze Age round barrow (SU 14 SW 298), and one of which lies immediately to the east of the barrow. |
More information : SU 1054 4433. A gunpost dating to the first half of the twentieth century, located at the western side of Larkhill, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The feature comprises a very slight semicircular bank 110m in diameter, enclosing two slit trenches. One slit trench is dug into the top of a Bronze Age round barrow (SU 14 SW 298), and the second lies immediately to the east of the barrow. The feature has been mapped by both RCHME's Salisbury Plain Training Area NMP and EH's Stonehenge WHS Mapping Project. (1) |
