Summary : Six Roman altars were found in the 17th and 18th century at Kirby Thore fort.
More information : Roman altars found at Kirkby Thore (NY 6325): No 759. Dedicated to Belatucadrus found in or before 1601, now built into a wall in Chapel Street, Appleby. No 760. Dedicated to Fortune found in 1688, seen in 1750, now lost. No 761. Fragment dedicated to Jupiter seen in wall of a house, now lost. No 762. Top of altar dedicated to Jupiter Serapis found in 1738 built into a house, then rebuilt into a wall on the main street. Now at Lowther Castle. No 764. Altar seen in 1664, reported as being at Kirby Thore Hall c 1700. No 765. Stone base found in 1687 at High Burwens on the east side of Kirby Thore fort. Now lost. (1)
