"About 1/2 mile S of Temple Sowerby, by the side of the Ro road leading from Kirkby Thore To Brougham, obscured by furze, stands a Ro milestone 4-1/2' high & having a diam of 1-1/2'. Excepting the example at Chesterholm, this is the only milestone in the four northern counties (perhaps we might say England) occupying its original position.
