Summary : A hospital for a master and brothers was extant at Seaford between 1260-1534 and was under the patronage of Robertsbridge Abbey. The Hospital of St James of Sutton by Seaford was founded sometime before 1260, in which year the brethren received a royal grant of protection for five years. It was in the patronage of the Abbey of Robertsbridge. In 1523 it was lying vacant and of so small rents that no one could take it. But in 1534 the abbey of Robertsbridge granted to John Seman the site of the hospital of St James and 10 acres of land called Spittelland. The precise site of the hospital is not known.
