Summary : Augustinian Friars Priory founded before 1267 on the West side of the River Yare in Southtown. It was dissolved in 1538.There are two sections of walling extant, and a stone coffin lid was found in the vicinity in 1806. The friars maintained a building in the town, probably to house friars begging for alms. |

The above name "applies to an old wall, being the remains of an ancient priory found about the middle of the reign of Edward I. In the wall is an arched doorway now bricked up which was supposed to have led into a preaching yard where in the year 1806 AD a stone coffin with a highly wrought cross deposited on the lid was found". The Austins Friars Priory at Gorleston was founded before 1267 and was suppressed by Ingworth before December 1538 (for Priory church see TG 50 SW 6). (4)
