More information : The Manor of Horstead was granted by William II to the Nunnery at Caen, Normandy. (1) Messent considered this to be the site of a priory, but Knowles and Hadcock state, "it would not appear that nuns resided here; the estate was probably managed by a baliff, possibly a monk using the title "prior'". It was dissolved in 1414. (2)
