Summary : Roman road from Ilkley to Tadcaster. A section of roman road is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. Further sections are visible as cropmarks in Adel cum Eccup.
More information : A section of Roman road is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. The feature is part of the Roman road from Ilkley to Tadcaster, LINEAR 604, Margary 72b, and comprises a broad bank 12.7m wide. The road is discontinuous and runs from SE 1951 4385 to SE 1979 4376 for a distance of 295.5m.

Further sections of Roman road 72b are visible as cropmarks on air photographs. Two branch roads are visible at SE 2543 4149 and SE 2778 4106. The road is discontinuous and runs from SE 2520 4154 to SE 2830 4106 over a distance of 3157m.

A discontinuous section of this road is visible as an earthwork embankment between SE 1998 4371 and SE2079 4343.

A discontinuous section of this road is visible as earthwork and cropmark banks and ditches between SE 2261 4273 and SE2425 4191.

A section of this road is visible as an earthwork embankment between SE 2482 4162 and SE2511 4155.

Sections of Roman road 72b are visible as cropmarks on air photographs between SE 3878 4254 and SE 3969 4273. The easternmost section comprises both agger (10m wide) and external ditches (each 1.3m wide). The westernmost section is only visible as a single ditch.
