Summary : A round cairn on Ramsley Moor, one of around 80 clearance and burial cairns in the vicinity (see associated monument records). Excavated in 1960, prior to excavation it appeared as a slightly oval mound up to 14 feet across and 16 inches high, with some upright stones visible. A shallow saucer-shaped hollow was found beneath the cairn. The excavator suggested that it may originally have held an inhumation, although there is no evidence that it was anything other than a natural feature. Little structure was evident among the cairn mound, and the only finds were some "nondescript" pices of flint, a piece of flaked sandstone, some shale fragments and pieces of hazelnut shell. |
