Summary : Dominican friary founded in 1318. It was originally founded on the South cliff away from the town centre. Other sites were granted in 1339 and 1342. In 1358, the friary being threatened by erosion from the sea, the King granted a new site in the centre of the town. The friary was dissolved in 1538, at which time its buildings were described as being ruinous. A cellar beneath a barn (TQ91NW15) is alleged to be one of the sites of the friary.
