OXFORD FRIARY OF CRUTCHED FRIARS

DESCRIPTION + /

Friary founded in 1349 for 13 student brethren who seem to have moved their dwelling place several times, outside the East and South gates of the city. When they began building their church in 1349, the bishop forbade them to continue. In 1352, they held their services elsewhere, and the prior was summoned to appear before the Abbot of Osney. Their property was disposed of in 1362.
