17 The Square

Hob Uid: 1318204
Location :
Northumberland
Blanchland
Grid Ref : NY9662050350
Summary : No 17 The Square and adjacent building to west, now a wing of Lord Crewe Arms. Terrace of 6 houses, formerly monastic building, remodelled mid-18th century. The terrace appears to be the monastic south range, much remodelled; conventionally this would have the frater at 1st floor level - the remains of large, possibly 15th century, windows on the south suggest an important apartment here. The terrace has two storeys and a eight window range, it is constructed mainly from rubble with a stone slate roof hipped at each end.
