Summary : The Angel (west side), former inn, now part of Lord Crewe Arms. Part of medieval monastic outer court range, remodelled and extended to rear mid-18th century; altered, with new roof, mid-19th century. Interior: Front section retains 1-metre-thick walls of medieval range. Silver residues have been found beneath the floor.
More information : Listed, Grade II. (1) Residues of early lead processing have been found beneath the floor level of this inn, and are Mediaeval in origin. The residues sugest silver extraction. Any structures associated with such activity are likely to be of national importance. (2)
