Summary : Site of a Roman villa at Wharram le Street indicated on aerial photographs and uncovered by geophysical survey and limited excavation. The villa consists of a rectangular enclosure surrounded by other enclosures; a stone building with evidence for mosaics was located in the rectangular enclosure and may be dated to the 3rd/4th century AD. Though it has been suggested that this site may have been a shrine or temple rather than a villa.
