Summary : A bowl barrow, part of the Oakley Down barrow group (SU 01 NW 19). Listed by RCHME as Wimborne St Giles 107 and by Grinsell as Wimborne St Giles 12, it was descriebd by RCHME as an irregular mound 40 feet in diameter and 1.5 feet high. It was dug into in the early 19th century by Cunnington and Colt Hoare (their barrow 12). Hoare's full account of the excavation is as follows: "No. 12 is a large flat barrow, in which we made two sections, but could discover no sepulchral signs whatever". |
