Summary : Two aircraft hangars at Yatesbury airfield which opened in November 1916 as a Training Depot Station with two separate aerodromes, each to house two Royal Flying Corps reserve squadrons for the training of pilots. The hangars are timber-framed with corrugated iron cladding and tarred roofing felt to curved and boarded roofs. Each hangar is rectangular in plan, with full-width doors to gable ends and roofs of 80 feet span. To the north sides are lean-tos comprising office, store, dressing room and heating chamber. The iron door gantries and corrugated iron doors date from a refurbishment of 1936. |
