Summary : Medieval field system of ridge and furrow in the parish of Cliffe is visible as earthworks on early vertical air photographs. Most is no longer extant on later photographs taken in the 1970s, except for a small area to the east of Cliffe village, north of the River Ouse at Newhay Grange and adjacent to Bowland House. Some areas are also visible as cropmarks.
More information : Medieval field system of ridge and furrow in the parish of Cliffe is visible as earthworks on early vertical air photographs. Most is no longer extant on later photographs taken in the 1970s, except for a small area to the east of Cliffe village (SE 664 325), north of the River Ouse at Newhay Grange (SE 662 306) and adjacent to Bowland House(SE 674 338). Some areas are also visible as cropmarks.
