Monument Number 1302877

Hob Uid: 1302877
Location :
Dorset
Gussage St. Michael
Grid Ref : ST9722012260
Summary : A bowl barrow located close to the long barrow ST 91 SE 23, and immediately adjacent to the bowl barrow ST 91 SE 19, a short distance southeast of the terminal of the Dorset Cursus (Linear 41). Listed by RCHME as Gussage St Michael 17 and by Grinsell as Gussage St Michael 9, RCHME fieldwork recorded the barrow as a mound 50 feet in diameter and 3 feet high, surrounded by a ditch 16 feet across. A hedge cuts across one side of the barrow, and the mound also has a hole in the centre, presumably the result of an unrecorded antiquarian excavation. This barrow was originally recorded as part of ST 91 SE 19. That record should be consulted for further details and additional sources.
