Summary : Landscape park, pleasure grounds and gardens to Smithills Hall. The park was developed during the 19th century and the pleasure grounds were added during the mid or late 19th century. During the late 19th century the gardens were laid out, possibly by George Devey . The park contains Pulhamite features which were laid out 1873-75 by James Pulham II (1820-1898) and James Pulham III (1845-1920) of James Pulham and Son. The features included a waterfall, rocky stream and bridge which may have been designed in conjunction with Devey.

The park contains Pulhamite features which were laid out 1873-75 by James Pulham II (1820-1898) and James Pulham III (1845-1920) of James Pulham and Son. The features included a waterfall, rocky stream and bridge which may have been designed in conjunction with George Devey.

The site has been included in the national Pulham database (ID number 155) and subsequently published in the gazetteer. (2-4)
