Summary : Alleged site of a Roman turret, no visible remains.
More information : Although trenching in the probable position of turret 55b during 1933 (1) did not find the turret, the OS Map of Hadrian's Wall, 1964 shows it at NY 5266 6433, the measured distance. This was plotted at the usual distance between turrets from the known position of turret 55A. (2) No visible remains. (3) The turret was located in 1959 by K S Hodgson. (4) Though Birley (auth 4) states that this turret has been located, there are no documentary sources as to how and where. There are no surface traces of a turret in the locality, and so its precise position remains conjectural. Grid reference NY 5266 6433 indicates the measured position only. (5)
