TURRET 53B

DESCRIPTION + /

The site of Roman turret 53B. It survives as a slight earthwork platform. There is a slight lift, 0.1m high, along the line of Hadrian's Wall and in the adjoining field at NY 5553 6454; this is the position suggested by the Ordnance Survey field investigator of 1972, and subsequently published on the current OS 25" map, which is different from and preferred to that shown on OS 6" 1957.
