Summary : Former priory church of the Benedictine Priory of Leominster, (SO45NE5), now parish church. Only the aisled nave and West tower now remains, the apsidal presbytery with th transepts having been demolished after the Dissolution of 1539. The church originally consisted of the Norman nave, its North aisle, chancel and the West tower. A second aisle was added to the South in the 13th century, which is the main nave of the present church, at which time the presbytery and transepts were built to replace the Norman chancel. In the 14th century an additional South aisle and South-West porch were added. Following a fire in 1699 it was restored, and further restorations were undertaken between 1866-1889. |
