Summary : The site of Roman turret 50B, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It was excavated in 1911, there are no surface remains.
More information : (NY 5973 6573) Turret (GS) (Site of) (1) About 80 yards east of the deserted farm buildings at Appletree, and marked by a distinct rise in the south wall of the road, which is carried over the south wall of the turret (2). Conclusive proof of Hadrianic occupation was found during excavation, showing both the Stone and the Turf walls were the work of Hadrian. (2-3) Apart from the slight rise in the level of the field wall there are no visible remains. (4) The turret was located and excavated in 1911. (5) There is no surface trace of the turret; OS position at NY 5973 6573 accepted. (6) Scheduled (7) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (8)
