Summary : Late 11th or early 12th century hospitium of the Priory of Lewes. It is located at the Priory gateway. At some time in the Middle Ages it is thought that the hospitium was found to be too small, and was thus granted to the townspeople as a new church. The tower appears to have been built in the 14th century and was rebuilt in brick 1714-38. The nave was remodelled in the 15th century, the South chapel was added in 1847 and the chancel in 1885. |
