Summary : Site of a Bronze Age cairn, destroyed in 1892. The mound was an oval 80 feet by 63 feet and about 4 feet high, divided north to south through the centre by a row of five stones with cup and ring markings. On the west side of the stones were 32 cremations, one in a complete urn, others accompanied by urn fragments. On the east side were two grave-shaped excavations, which may have contained inhumations. Other finds included two incense cups and beads of stone and cannel coal |
More information : [NY 56993988] Tumulus [GT] (Site of) (1) The site of a cairn in Low Field, 600 yards west-south-west of Parks Farm, destroyed in 1892. The mound was an oval 80 feet by 63 feet and about 4 feet high, divided north to south through the centre by a row of five stones with cup and ring markings. On the west side of the stones were 32 cremations, one in a complete urn, others accompanied by urn fragments. On the east side were two grave-shaped excavations, which may have contained inhumations. Other finds included two incense cups and beads of stone and cannel coal.
